Different types of pipe testing methods to use

Other people may use high-quality tubing like Inconel 625 Pipes & Tubes in their projects without testing because they say they are suitable for the job. However, it may rise to unforeseen disaster later. Therefore you should not skip determining if the pipes you want to use are fit for your operation or not.

You can use different methods to test the pipes. Most of the things you have to test and check are cracks, defects, wear, tears or even predict if the pipe can support your project. Even if you are using good quality pipes like Inconel 600 pipes & tubes, it could be better to test them. Now let's dive in deeper to look at these testing methods.

Hydrostatic testing

If you use the pipe in your project to transmit fluids at a given pressure, then you cannot afford to miss this testing. Here you do this testing to determine if there is any breakage, leakage, or the pipe can break while transmitting a fluid at a given pressure.

Even if you are going to test the piping system, remember to use the recommended tubing for a given environment like Inconel 625 Pipes & Tubes which work best in a wide range of environments.

Magnetic particle inspection

It is another method that you can use to test your pipes. You can use this method to check if there are any flaws near the surface of your pipes. The technique is for magnetic stainless steel grade pipes or tubings like Inconel 600 pipes and tubes.

You will identify the areas with cracks, pores, breakage, weak points, and many others. Here you will use a magnet yoke, white paint, and magnet ink which contains iron particles. So if there are any defects, then the iron ink will deform around that area.

Charpy impact test

It is a technique used to determine the toughness of your pipes. Usually, this method will be valuable especially when testing the strength of joined together or notched pipes. Here the pipe is subjected to a controlled environment, and then you can check how much impact it can absorb. This method is an easy to perform and cost-effective method to determine the strength and quality of your pipe. To be safer, you can use Inconel 600 Pipes & Tubes, suitable for a project requiring high-strength pipes or tubes.

Ultrasonic testing

It is testing that you can use to determine the thickness of the wall of your pipes or tubes. Here you have to transmit ultrasonic sound waves and allow them to bounce on the wall of the pipes. Since the sound waves usually reflect then, how it travels on the pipes can be measured. Apart from the thickness, this method also identifies fractures and weld points.

Conclusion

Performing the above testing methods to your piping system can help you to know the pipes' conditions and determine if they are fit for the operation or not. It is good to carry out these additional testing on the pipe so that you will be able to determine various conditions on the pipes. Therefore, even if you are using best-grade pipes like Inconel 625 Pipes & Tubes, it will be good to carry out the testing to determine if it fits your application.
